Air Balloon Before/After

by Jared on Jan.24, 2010, under Uncategorized

Yes I know this is a re-posting of the first blog post, but I wanted to show the before with it.  Also is a reminder to not discard images when the dynamics of the image aren’t that special.  When I took pictures of this balloon, I was on the way back from a photo-walk that was not very fruitful.  I saw the balloon and rushed to get to a place where the composition of the photo would be good.  The place I found was looking right into the morning sun.  I knew the sky was going to be blown out and knew I didn’t have much chance to get the good exposure bracket for an HDR with how fast the balloon was moving.  So I set my exposure the best I could and shot fast and furious.  This frame was the best out of the couple dozen that I took.  When I got to post-processing time I was disappointed with the results, I couldn’t see any mountains in the background and the contrast was blah.  I had been experimenting with single image HDR’s that the original looked better than this, but I thought I’d give it a try to see if it worked.  Turns out after fidgeting with the photomatix sliders enough, I found the misty mountains in the background, and rather th0ught that the flare of the sun added a certain mystique to the images.  Turns out that I still got the image that I saw with my eyes using single image HDR processing on a blah image.

Mount Timpanogos Temple with a little HDR Secret Sauce

by Jared on Jan.20, 2010, under HDR imaging, Photography

Here we go again with the HDR’s… which means that I have viewing the world in HDR for the length of time that I have images on my hard drive.  I do like to take other imagery… but it’s on my other computer.  I’ll get to that sometime but for now, enjoy.

Quick notes on this image.  I was on my home from work commiserating to my wife about the lack of personal, do what I want photo opportunities when I stepped out of the car at home seeing this sunset with photo fever in my blood.  I told my wife I was leaving… I knew I had minimal time to get to somewhere where there was scenery that would be complimented by the vibrant colors of the sky.  After I got to the parking lot of a private school across from the LDS Mount Timpanogos Temple, my only danger was the ice that nearly landed me on my… well that’s about it…

AF Canyon HDR

by Jared on Jan.20, 2010, under HDR imaging, Photography

Well I think that I finally got it to work the way that I wanted it to.  After my first post about being full of hot air… well lets just say that since I couldn’t get images to display correctly, so I temporarily stopped until I figured that out.  And it works now!

Anyways, I’ve got another HDR image for today.  it was rather a bland morning up American Fork Canyon when I took this picture, and it’s yet another example of how HDR can take a blah image and make it… well, alright.

Full of hot air… or not?

by Jared on Jan.03, 2010, under HDR imaging, Photography

So this is the 7th time(I think) that I have started a blog due to various reasons that I ought not bore you with.  I really love photography and I love to share/ partake of photography by the means that has been dubbed ‘blogging’ and that is why I’m here.  Well that and I think that this HDR image is really awesome… and I hope that I’m not full of hot air like this balloon and can continue to blog.
